Northwest Missouri State University’s Student Activities Council (SAC) is presenting the campus community with a unique opportunity to help them tackle anxiety and stress.

Evan Gambardella, a therapeutic hypnotist, is bringing his “Train your Brain” program to the Northwest campus at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, in the Charles Johnson Theater at the Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building. The event is free and open to the public.

Certified as an instructor of hypnosis by the National Guild of Hypnotists, Gambardella has performed in 20 countries on six continents. “Train Your Brain” brings mental health fitness programming to individuals who suffer from anxiety, chronic stress, depression, loss and post-traumatic stress disorder.

“This interactive and fun experience is all about supporting mental health, especially during stressful times,” said Katelyn Briggs, a junior psychology major from Eagleville, Missouri, who serves as SAC president. “Anyone who attends will walk away feeling more relaxed, mentally stronger and with practical tools to handle stress, stay focused and create a healthier balance between school and life.”

SAC plans and administers activities for Northwest students to contribute to a more well-rounded social, recreational and cultural life for the campus and community. The organization provides entertaining alternatives to students with late-night activities and events throughout the year, including concerts, lectures, movies and comedians.

SAC’s spring lineup continues next month with a craft night from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, in the Student Union Ballroom. Then, the spring tradition of Northwest Week returns March 24-28. SAC sponsors Northwest’s annual spring concert on Friday, April 4, and collaborates with the B.D. Owens Library for a night of miniature golf in the library on Tuesday, April 8.
